The Frequently Asked & Answered

We know there are many variables to chosing the best for your student. This section will provide some answers to the more commonly asked questions regarding our services.

What subjects can you tutor?

We are able to support any subject, from Pre-K through college. For foreign languages, we are also able to support German and Spanish.

Which test should my student take – SAT or ACT?

The ACT may work better for a student with a wide range of competency, while the SAT’s subject limitations may help a student who finds standardized tests stressful and/or has less exposure to science. It is widely thought that it’s easier to score higher on the ACT than the SAT, even as the time restrictions are more demanding on the ACT.

Should my student take both the ACT and SAT?

Determining if your student should take both depends on the student’s ease with taking timed, standardized tests, their college goals and how much prep time they can invest. Prepping for one test does not necessarily prepare the student for both. Taking a few practice tests of each in the specified formats and time frames can help a student decide what works for them. 2-3 months / around 10-15 hours is a reasonable prep time, depending on a student’s academic foundation, background, facility with learning strategies and personal motivation. More time may be needed if they seek a more substantial score improvement. Dedicated practice time between tutoring sessions and discussing focused challenge areas will also make a difference in scores. Many students take the tests several times to build the familiarity and competency to raise scores.

What is the difference between the ACT and SAT test?

The primarily paper-based ACT test currently runs 2 hours and 55-minutes, with an optional 40-minute essay section pushing it to 3 hours and 30-minutes. The ACT test consists of a 60-minute Math test, a 45-minute English test and 35-minute Science and Reading test sections. In 2025 the ACT will offer the core English, Reading and Math sections with fewer questions and make the Science section optional, like the current essay section.
